Waukesha County Water Softener Co. Call(262) 829-5961

Water softeners for Waukesha County's private wells

Lake Michigan water stopped at the city and village mains. In the towns between, from the Town of Genesee and the Village of Waukesha to Lisbon, the Town of Merton and Vernon, homes on private wells still draw Waukesha County groundwater, and no utility publishes a number for any of them.

Two wells, one day, very different numbers

Public systems show how much the county's groundwater can vary. On a single sampling day, Delafield's 1,215-foot well read 240 milligrams per liter and its 220-foot well read 400, about 14 and 23 grains. Muskego's two municipal wells, sampled April 27, 2026, read 49.6 and 405, about 3 and 24 grains.

If wells inside one public system can differ that much, private wells a short walk apart can differ as well. A neighbor's number is not yours.

Your lab results, and the rest of the call

Tell us the house has a well, then give us whatever the lab report shows, hardness first. Add the size of the household, the point where water enters the house, and any softener already there.

Iron, bacteria and nitrate

Wells here often carry iron along with hardness; Mukwonago went as far as an iron filtration plant at its Well 5 in 2019, because that well ran high in iron. Mention any iron result on the call.

No softener is designed to deal with bacteria or nitrate. Wisconsin's DNR advises an annual bacteria test, at minimum, for every private well, softener or no softener.

Same installation, same final check

A well home gets the same work as a city home: softener and brine tank where the water comes in, the bypass, a drain line run to its air gap and the drinking tap at the kitchen sink, all of it the work of a licensed Wisconsin plumbing contractor. A household tap is then checked until hardness reads zero.

Common questions

We live in the Town of Genesee. How hard is our well water?

Nobody puts out figures for private wells, in Genesee or anywhere else in the county. Most utilities here that pump groundwater publish very hard numbers, but your well's own figure has to come from a lab report or a check at your tap.

Did the Lake Michigan switch reach any private wells?

No. The switches in Waukesha, New Berlin and Menomonee Falls changed what flows through those utilities' mains. A private well still draws what it always has.

What if nobody has ever tested our well?

You can still call. The price does not depend on a lab report, and hardness gets measured at the house before anything is disconnected.
